| Kennel Cough Kennel Cough (Tracheobronchitis) is most
commonly caused by the bacteria Bordetella. Symptoms include severe
coughing and gagging as if the dog has something caught in its throat.
Kennel cough is a very contagious air-born disease that can be picked up
in places where large numbers of dogs may gather such as kennels,
grooming shops, animal hospitals and dog shows.
Most dogs respond both quickly and positively to a treatment of
antibiotics and cough suppressants, but in some cases the cough may
persist for months or may even develop into pneumonia.
Puppies are most susceptible to this disease. Be sure to talk to
your veterinarian about the vaccine (usually administered by a nasal
spray) for Canine Bordetella. |
