Allergy can be defined as a heightened immune reaction to a common substance. In an allergic individual, a normally harmless substance is mistakenly identified as a threat to the body. The immune system will then fight off this substance with a immune response. It is this immune response that can cause the itchy or weepy eyes and/or hair loss that is seen in allergic animals.
